1). HENRY MILLER EVENT AT THE BEAT MUSEUM - SUNDAY, 2/14/10 @ 7 PM
Magnus Toren runs the Henry Miller Memorial Library in Big Sur, California. And just like John Allen Cassady and I periodically run around the country telling the story of the Beats at high schools, colleges and community centers, Magnus does the same thing telling the story of Henry Miller.
Henry Miller was so impressed when he read "Dharma Bums" that he sent a letter to Viking praising Kerouac's work. Subsequently he wrote the forward to the first edition of "The Subterraneans"
Did you know Henry Miller's middle name was "Valentine" and that he named his daughter Valentine? It's true! So what better day to do a Henry Miller event at The Beat Museum!
Join us for an eclectic evening of story telling, slideshow, music and song as Magnus reminds us of the similarities and close association of Henry Miller to The Beat Generation. It's Free!

2). "THE BEAT MUSEUM - A NICE MIX OF ECCENTRIC JUMBLE & OBSESSIVE INCLUSION"
A guy named Barry Divola came into the Museum as few months ago saying he writes a travelogue for the folks down under. We talked about all the local Beat Haunts here in North Beach - City Lights, Vesuvio, Caffe Trieste and I told him I'd meet him at Specs later that night to fill him in on some details. What follows is a delightful article written for the Brisbane Times about all the places we know and love here in North Beach! And I just LOVE the way Barry describes The Beat Museum as "... a nice mix of eccentric jumble and obsessive inclusion." Fun read!

3). GREGORY CORSO WATERCOLOR TEMPORARILY REMOVED FOR REFRAMING
Last newsletter we mentioned how an original Corso watercolor had been donated to us by the estate of Maureen O'Connor. It's a beautiful piece and we were anxious to display it quickly even though we weren't able to frame it up as nicely as I would have liked due to the fact that we run such a lean operation around here at The Beat Museum. (We do more with nothing than any outfit I've ever seen! We're kind of like that old story "Stone Soup" - and if you've never heard of it, google it as it's a pretty great story!).
Well, wouldn't you know a guy on our email newsletter list (who shall remain nameless for today as I haven't yet asked his permission to put his name to this) mentioned to some friends how we could use a professional frame job for adding this fine piece to The Beat Museum collection. And wouldn't you know it, one day out of the blue I get a phone call from the good folks over at Sterling Art Services in San Francisco offering to frame this important work up for us for FREE as their donation to our cause.
I was thrilled, of course, so I scooted on over to their place on Norfolk between Harrison and Folsom and we collaborated on how the piece would look best. I had a chance to see their operation and was quite impressed with their facilities, knowledge and history (they've been in business since 1981). So, if you're in the market for professional framing or other Art Services, please check out the folks at Sterling Art Services as a "thank you" for their donation to The Beat Museum!
